NEW Welling manager Adrian Pennock wasted no time in returning to former club Gravesend to sign defender Matt Lovell on a month's loan.

Lovell will make his debut in Saturday's Conference South match away to Weston-Super-Mare.

Former Gillingham defender Pennock was appointed Wings boss on Tuesday after a 16-month spell at Stonebridge Road.

The 33-year-old saw off competition from caretaker boss Liam Diash, who had enjoyed a four-match unbeaten spell, to earn his first managerial post.

He said: "I've been handed this fantastic opportunity with Welling and I really can't put into words how excited I feel about the challenge."

Confirming the appointment, Wings general manager Graham Hobbins said: "We're delighted Adrian has agreed to join us because he was our number one choice. We wanted someone young and enthusiastic that was stepping out of being an assistant manager and was ready for a number one job."
