Faversham: Dead dog in plastic bag found on roadside

A dead dog was found in a plastic bag dumped on a country lane.

The animal was discovered by a walker in a bridlepath off Vicarage Lane in Ospringe on Monday morning.

It is believed to have been a lurcher breed.

Both the RSPCA and Swale Borough Council have been involved with the incident but police were not informed.

A spokesman for Swale Borough Council said: “We understand that the dog was collected by the RSPCA and taken to our contractors Biffa.

“Unfortunately, there was no identification chip or tag, but as is usual procedure for dogs and cats, it will be stored for a month to give owners the time to come forward.”

If owners do not come forward, the dog will be taken to local vets for cremation.

An RSPCA spokesman said: "We were called after the body of a lurcher dog was found on a bridleway.

"The body is thought to have been there for some time and although there were signs of injuries it is not possible to determine if they were caused in an accident or deliberately.

"We have no evidence to lead us to an owner but if the public have information which could help they can call our appeal line 0300 123 8018."
