Invicta need to bounce back

Folkestone Invicta manager Neil Cugley is looking for his side to put a disappointing week of cup football behind them as they return to Ryman League Division 1 South action this weekend.

The Cheriton Road outfit crashed out of the FA Trophy following a replay at Chatham on Tuesday and face a trip to manager-less Leatherhead on Saturday, before entertaining Croydon Athletic at the Buzzlines Stadium on Tuesday evening.

“We’ve got to roll our sleeves up and get on with things,” Cugley said. “We are playing good football, like we have all season, but at the moment we don’t seem to be able to put the chances away.

“That’s what happened against Chatham. Tuesday’s result was disappointing because, after Saturday’s game was spoilt by the wind, the weather and pitch up there were good. We dominated the play but couldn’t put our chances away.”

Craig Wilkins could have been a player to put the chances away had he not been needed at the back to cover for Nick Humphrey’s absence.

But despite the lack of options available to Cugley, the manager is happy to go with what he has, and isn’t looking to add to his squad.

“We are not going to go out and get anybody in,” he said. “I’m happy with what we have.”

James Corbett made his long awaited return to the team on Tuesday night, and Michael Everitt could return to the side on Saturday following injury.

Nick Humphrey will definitely be back after missing Tuesday’s replay to attend a funeral, but Lee Spiller will be out for a month as he recovers from a minor knee operation.

Cugley’s men get the chance to gain revenge on their FA Trophy exit at the hands of Chatham, when they face the Medway side in the first round of the Kent Senior Cup, at Maidstone Road, on Tuesday November 25.
