Coronavirus Kent: Council drive to coordinate community support effort

Volunteers looking to help out during the coronavirus outbreak can register at Gravesham council's website.

Gravesham council leader Cllr John Burden issued a statement yesterday saying many had come forward to offer their services, and that the council would help coordinate the volunteer effort.

He said: "We are extremely proud of our community in Gravesham and are aware that many of you have already been helping your elderly and vulnerable neighbours during this difficult time.

"We have been contacted by a number of you who are keen to volunteer and help where you can. The best support you can give at this time is to those within your local neighbourhood.

"However, if you want to help further, are well enough to do so, and have not been in contact with anyone that has Coronavirus COVID-19 or who is displaying symptoms of the virus, please visit www.gravesham.gov.uk/volunteer and complete the form you will find there to register your interest."

Details will be shared with NWK Volunteer Centre, who are working with the council and other agencies to provide support.

Volunteer opportunities include assisting food banks, picking up shopping on behalf of neighbours, or offering telephone support.

Anyone worried about a member of the community who they think may require some support - and those in need themselves - can fill in a form to request help at www.gravesham.gov.uk/volunteer or call 01474 337070.
