Road smash and car fires in one night

Fire crews have had a busy night dealing with a road smash and two car fires.

Firefighters from Thames-side were called to an accident in Old Road West, Gravesend, after a driver had collided with bollards in the road at about 6.40pm on Wednesday. The man managed to crawl out of his overturned car before crews arrived, and was taken to hospital with multiple injuries, though none of them thought to be serious.

An hour later, at about 7.30pm, crews were called to a Vauxhall Corsa on fire in Thong Lane. And at 10.20pm they made safe a Vauxhall Corsa Combo van, which was on fire in Ifield Road, Shorne. It is not known at this stage whether the fires were started deliberately.
