A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "Crews were called to reports of an electrical cable on fire next to the railway track on Windmill Street, Gravesend.

"Network Rail isolated the power and trains were temporarily stopped."

Southeastern has also been contacted for comment.

A witness, who works nearby, said: "I heard the sirens at about 12.30pm.

"Then at around 1pm I could see them using their ladders to climb over the wall to get onto the slopes by the tracks."
