Fleet beaten on the road

York City 1 Gravesend & Northfleet 0

AN EARLY goal gave York City all three points against Gravesend on Saturday.

The only goal of the game came inside 10 minutes when defender James Dudgeon rose highest to powerfully head home Darren Dunning's inswinging corner from close range.

The home side dominated the first half with Fleet's Rob Watkins, Jimmy Jackson and James Smith all being called into defensive action to clear off the line.

Fleet improved dramtically after the break and Mark Rawle saw his 63rd shot well saved by Chris Porter after he had been well found by Paul McCarthy.

York were hanging on at the end as Gravesend threw everything at them, but they couldn't find that vital breakthrough.

Gravesend: Holloway, Gooding, J. Smith, McCarthy, Watkins, Slatter (Moore 83), McKimm (Saunders 56), Johnson, Jackson, Drury, Rawle (Sodje 73).
Subs Not Used: Kerr, Fuller.
Attendance: 2,902.
