Brett snaps up Midlands plant

AN AMBITIOUS paving manufacturer is continuing its push beyond the county by snapping up a Midlands plant.

Brett Landscaping, which recently opened a new £6.7m factory at Cliffe, has bought part of Lafarge Concrete Products.

The acquisition, for an undisclosed sum, gives Brett a strong manufacturing presence in the Midlands.

It also boosts the company’s workforce by 75 to more than 300 and turnover by £10m to around £40m.

The Lafarge plant is at Barrow upon Soar, near Loughborough, where it makes a range of highways products such as kerbs and paving.

Brett, part of the long-established company Robert Brett and Sons, based in Canterbury, said the acquisition would add a range of products that complemented its own paving and stone products and took it into the expanding “transport solutions” sector.

The move continues Brett Landscaping’s ambitious growth strategy announced when the company was launched earlier this year.

Bill Brett, deputy chairman of Robert Brett, said: “Following on so closely from our £6.7m investment in Cliff, this geographic leap provides us with a hub from which we will offer an exciting and extended range of hard landscaping products on a national scale.”
