Police have found 35 cannabis plants growing in the back garden and shed of a house in Ramsgate.

Officers from Thanet’s neighbourhood policing team visited the terraced home in Windmill Walk on Wednesday afternoon and found the plants, together with lighting and heating equipment.

A 55-year-old man from Ramsgate was arrested that afternoon on suspicion of the cultivation of cannabis and the abstraction of electricity.

He has been bailed until 4 November, pending further inquiries.

Police say the operation was the direct result of information received from members of the community.

Sgt Lara Connor said: “We are very grateful to the people who contacted us and worked with us on this. We would encourage anyone with any information or concerns relating to policing in their part of Thanet to come to us. Call our office on 01843 222207.”

Police worked with engineers from EDF last night to ensure the property was safe.
