Doorstep seller tricks elderly woman

A MAN posing as a salesman stole cash from the village home of an elderly woman while she was bringing him a drink of water.

The man targeted the same victim twice in two weeks.

The 86-year-old lady was at home in High Street, Wingham, near Canterbury, at 4.30pm on Wednesday when the man came to her door carrying a black bag and asking if she wanted to buy anything.

She said no, but agreed to a request for a glass of water. As she was brining the water she noticed the man come out of her bedroom and, when he had gone, saw that a small amount of cash was missing from her purse.

The same man called two weeks earlier and again the woman refused to buy anything (it is not clear what the man was selling).

The offender is described as white, in his teens or early twenties, of slim build, with brown hair, 5ft 1in tall with 'piercing' dark eyes, and was wearing a dark baseball cap.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 01304 240055.
