Danny Jackman says Tuesday’s match against Leyton Orient was a timely reminder of the need to "kill teams off."

The Gills were unable to maintain their early dominance against the east Londoners and paid the price.

Jackman, pictured, is now hoping it’s a lesson learnt as the Gills head to Carlisle looking for more precious points in the battle to avoid League 1 relegation.

The midfielder said: "We started well and could have been two or three up by the break but in the second half we stopped doing what got us the joy in the first half.

"We let them back in and in the end a draw was probably a fair result. We just need to keep doing what we had been doing in the first half and kill teams off when we get the chance.

"We’ve got a good work ethic in the team and it’s about rolling our sleeves up. We’re all working hard for each other but like we showed on Tuesday, we took our foot off and we can’t afford to do that."

Orient’s equaliser on Tuesday ended Gills’ hopes of a third successive clean sheet and Jackman hopes the back four can keep it tight again on Saturday.

He said: "The big thing for us at the minute is that we don’t look like conceding and if we can go away like that, with the three players we have up top, we should have the quality to shine through."
