AN OVERTURNED lorry caused traffic chaos in part of the county during this morning's rush hour.

Traffic was gridlocked up to the M2 in Larkfield and the Shell service station garage in Snodland, after a Tesco lorry crashed on its side at the Ham Hill roundabout, Malling Road, just after 8am.

Photographer Clare Joyce, of Alex Hughes Court, off Malling Road, Snodland, said she felt the impact of the crash in her house.

She said: "We aren’t sure exactly what happened. There was a load bang, which vibrated the whole house. We looked out and the lorry was coming to rest on its side."

Police officers closed the road while fire fighters from Larkfield helped clear up diesel coming from the lorry.

The driver of the lorry was unhurt and treated for shock.

It is not yet known how the accident happened.

Police say the road will be closed until this evening.
