Tonbridge AC were the leading Kent club across the age groups in the South of England Road Relay Championships at Rushmoor Arena, Aldershot.

Success had been anticipated in the young athletes’ races but the West Kent outfit also displayed improved form in the senior categories at the weekend.

Newham and Essex Beagles won the six stage senior men’s race in 1hr 50min 56sec from hosts Aldershot (1.51.21) and Kent AC (1.52.15). Tonbridge AC were eighth (1.54.32) with Robbie Farnham-Rose (18.54) (pictured), Steve Fennell (18.30), Luca Russo (19.09), Henry Pearce (18.37), Dan Bradley (20.07) and Ben Cole (19.15).

Tonbridge finished 25th (61.51) in the senior women’s four stage relay won by Aldershot (51.01).

After winning all three boys’ titles in 2010 the Tonbridge squad was under pressure to reproduce similar results. They did retain their under-13 and under-17 trophies but the under-15s just missed out on medals in fourth.

The winning under-13 quartet was Jamie Goodge (10.48), Sam Crick (11.15), William Brockman (11.42) and Thomas Kendrick (10.16). Kendrick ran the fastest leg overall and Goodge was sixth fastest

Tonbridge triumphed in the under-17 men’s category through the closely matched Dominic Brown (12.08), Laurie Probert (12.05), Max Nicholls (12.26) and Charlie Joslin-Allen (12.08). Tonbridge B was close behind in fifth place and a third Tonbridge team finished tenth.

The under-17 women’s race was won by Chelmsford from Aldershot and Tonbridge, who took a surprise bronze.
