Village store raid foiled

Two men armed with a knife attempted to rob a village shop.

They targeted the Kent Mart mini market at Church Green, Marden, on Wednesday afternoon but left empty handed.

Police were called to the shop at about 4.20pm and are now appealing for witnesses to call them on 01622 604271.

One of the men was wearing a white T-shirt and blue three quarter length trousers, was about 6ft 2in and in his 20s or 30s with light-coloured hair.

He made off in the direction of Staplehurst in a black new-style Fiat which was extensively damaged on the off-side.

His accomplice was wearing a green shirt and made off on foot.

No-one was hurt in the incident.
