Spitfires top-scorer Darren Stevens described the team performance as a 'bad day in the office' as Kent slid to their first NatWest Pro40 defeat of the season by seven wickets in Scarborough.

After the one-sided encounter Stevens said: "The six-hour journey up here has left us all a bit jaded I think and then we've just gone out there and had a bad day in the office.

"It looked a difficult pitch early on, but by the time I got in the Yorkshire lads were looking to go to their death bowlers, so they changed their lengths and that allowed me to milk the ball around a bit.

"A couple of the boys did get good balls, 'Macca' (Ryan McLaren) nicked a big in-swinger and 'Jonesie' (Geraint Jones) got one that bounced a little bit, and I was just fortunate not to get one like it.

"We needed 220 but when I went in we were hoping to get to 180 and that was really a bonus.

"We lost wickets at wrong times and that cost us dearly.

"Anthony McGrath didn't have to try anything special until right at the end when the pressure had gone. He knocks it around and just waits for the bad balls and he was ideal on that pitch for them.

"The harder work was done at the other end by Brophy and Rudolph who I thought played really well."

The Kent players will enjoy a game of golf on Tuesday's day off, before returning to North Marine Road on Wednesday for the start of their LV Championship match with Yorkshire.
