IF INVICTA Dynamos player-coach Phil Chard is to end his career on a winning note, his team must overcome a one-goal deficit on Sunday.

Visiting Sheffield Scimitas won the first leg 4-3 at the Ice Bowl at the weekend and are now favourites to lift the English National Hockey League play-off crown.

The Mos started well taking the lead through Peter Beerling at 2.13, assisted by Peter Korff and Andy Martin, but goals from Sheffield dangerman Les Millie (12.45 and 18.49) and Richie Oliver (17.06) put the Scimitas in a commanding position at the end of the first period.

Sheffield extended their lead at the start of the second period, Millie getting his hat-trick (31.29) before the Mos staged a comeback with Peter Carey scoring unassisted (38.32) and Jamie Smith (49.05) giving Invicta real hope after good work from Adam Copland and Korff.

The second leg takes place on Saturday, face-off 7.15pm at iceSheffield in the Don Valley Bowl. To book your place on the two supporters coaches, email travel@invictadynamos.co.uk.

Sheffield are expecting a full house so supporters making their own way to the game are advised to turn up early as tickets are not sold in advance, but on a first come first served basis.

Meanwhile, Chard has been granted a testimonial by the club to mark seven successful seasons on August 22.
