OLYMPIC star Amir Khan has joined the list of admirers of Kent boxer Takaloo, who claimed the WBU international welterweight title at London’s ExCel Centre on Saturday.

Takaloo, in his first outing at welterweight, won all 10 rounds against German Turgay Uzun, on the same bill as Khan’s victory over Jackson Williams.

Trainer John McCormack was in Margate-based Takaloo’s camp as usual, alongside the boxer’s trainer Jim McDonnell, and also served as a cornerman on the night for heavyweight Danny Williams, who beat Matt Skelton to retain his Commonwealth title.

McCormack said: "Takaloo performed really well, and landed some great shots. It was a complete shut-out, but he was a little frustrated that Uzun just covered up and didn’t want to trade blows.

"There was a 14,000 crowd and TV coverage, and he wanted to put on a good show for the promoter, Frank Warren."

At the end of the night Takaloo went out with Khan, and had a meal with Williams.

McCormack said: "Amir Khan was very down to earth and approachable, although we were getting stopped all the time by people wanting to talk to him.

"I think Takaloo is proving great for our area, and really putting Thanet on the sporting map."
