Gillingham slipped to a fourth consecutive defeat as leaders Wolves maintained their relentless march towards the Premier League.
Though Gillingham improved in the second half they never recovered from the blow of gifting Wolves a 26th minute lead.
Goalkeeper Vince Bartram failed to hold Mark Kennedy's shot and Alex Rae followed up to net the rebound. Wolves incread their lead in first half stoppage time when Nathan Blake headed home Rae's cross.
Paul Shaw went closest for Gillingham with a 54th minute shot that struck a post.
