Buses damaged by youths with catapults

YOUTHS using catapults and throwing stones have hit and damaged Arriva buses on 12 occasions in the past month in the Maidstone and Malling area.

The incidents have happened as the buses have been driven in various locations, including Tonbridge Road, Maidstone, the town's Shepway estate and the village of Ditton.

Police have now appealed for information in a bid to catch the culprits.

Gianna Pollero, spokeswoman dfor Maidstone and Malling Police, said: "No one has been injured during any of the incidents and we wish to emphasise that people should continue to use the buses regularly."

Kevin Hawkins, commercial director for Arriva Southern Counties, said: “It is important to remember that the vast majority of bus journeys pass without incident.

"However, we would ask that anyone with information about those responsible for acts of vandalism to give the police full details so that arrests and prosecutions can be sought.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Maidstone and Malling Police on 01622 604181, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 – this call is free and confidential.
