Police name victims of fatal crashes

TWO people killed in separate crashes on the county's roads have been identified by Kent Police.

A van driver who died after his vehicle left the road and hit trees on the A2 at Wincheap, Canterbury, has been named as 35-year-old Stephen Gillingham.

Mr Gillingham, an hydraulic engineer from Clover Terrace, Northumberland Road, Maidstone, died at the scene.

He was at the wheel of a white Mercedes Sprinter that crashed at about about 5pm on Wednesday last week. No other vehicle was involved.

A motorcyclist who died in a crash on the A28, at Godmersham, near Ashford, on Saturday has been named as Nigel Simmonds, 47, from Walnut Tree Farm, Otterden.

A woman pillion rider on the motorcycle is fighting for her life in hospital.
