House with an interesting history

THE Old House in Painter’s Forstal, near Faversham, is a Grade II listed Georgian house set in lovely gardens in a rural location overlooking adjoining orchards at the rear.

The detached property dates from the late 18th century with red brick elevations beneath a hipped and tiled main roof.

The façade has an ornate door case described in the Listing Notation as "central half-glazed door with engaged Doric columns, pulvinated frieze and modillion cornice".

The house has an interesting history and is recorded as being built as the Parish Poor House in 1792 and carries that date carved in brickwork.

Later used as farm workers’ dwellings, the house was remodelled and enlarged to provide a family home. The accommodation is well proportioned, has character and would benefit from updating.

The accommodation includes reception hall, three reception rooms, kitchen/breakfast room, utility room, larder, cloakroom, cellar, landing, six bedrooms, two bathrooms and two separate toilets.

Outbuildings include garaging and former stables. The gardens extend to about two-thirds of an acre.

Guide price: £675,000. Agent: Cluttons on 01227 457441.
