A man is recovering in hospital after being hit by a car on Sunday morning.

The pedestrian was hit by a Vauxhall Corsa in Maidstone Road, Chatham at around 10.15am.

The road was closed off between Pattens Lane and Wallace Road to allow the Kent Air Ambulance to land and investigations to be carried out.

The air ambulance took the man to a London hospital. Police say his condition is no longer be treated as life threatening.

The man suffered cracked ribs, a broken ankle and facial injuries.

It is the second accident on that stretch of road, in just over a week.

A 25-year-old woman motorist had to be taken to hospital after her Ford Ka was in collision with a police car on April 19.
