Big chance for triallist to impress Hess

GILLINGHAM unveil triallist striker Yannick Kamanan in tonight's friendly with Maidstone United at Sittingbourne hoping they have unearthed a gem following his surprise release by Tottenham.

The 20-year-old Frenchman, born just across the Channel in Dunkerque, was on youth forms with Paris St Germain and Le Mans before Tottenham signed him to their youth academy.

He was top scorer in Tottenham's Under-19 side during the last two seasons and recently scored twice for the reserves at Leicester.

Glenn Hoddle's decision to release him has surprised many at White Hart Lane and Tottenham's loss could be Gillingham's gain.

"We were approached by an agent to see if we were interested and we said we would have a look," said Gillingham player-manager Andy Hessenthaler. "He's looked strong and powerful in training and I intend taking a look at him tonight and in tomorrow's reserve game against Norwich."

The Gills boss has promised Maidstone that he will field a strong side for the first match between the two clubs for 10 years. The game was arranged by former Gillingham striker and Maidstone coach Steve Butler.

Tonight's match at Central Park kicks off at 7.30pm. Admission prices have been fixed at £5 seats, standing £4. Concessions for senior citizens and under 14s are £3 standing and £2 standing. Under 5s will be admitted free.
