Fears after baby left in car outside Wickes in Sittingbourne

Concerns about a baby being left alone in a vehicle have been lodged with Kent police’s child protection department.

It’s understood the tot, thought to be about three to six-months-old, was seen by a member of the public crying inside the car which was parked at Wickes, London Road, Sittingbourne, at around 3.45pm yesterday.

Staff, who were alerted to the situation, put a message out via the store’s public address system in a bid to find the child’s parent or guardian.

A man and woman, who approached the customer service desk after hearing the announcement, were soon seen leaving the store before returning moments later holding a child.

A spokesman for Kent police said: “A report was received and it has been filed for our records.

“As it’s not a formal complaint there is no investigation at this stage.”
