The fox and the hound make odd bedfellows.

But not as far as rescued cub Fred and his new friend Sadie are concerned.

Fred was taken in by the RSPCA aged just eight weeks, after being found near a Canterbury roadside.

The cub had been hit by a car and had to have an operation to pin and plate his leg.

Since then, he has made great progress at the Canterbury and District RSPCA’s rescue and rehoming centre, where he is fed twice a day, and will soon be returned to the wild.

But Fred has not been as keen to return to the wild as his carer, RSPCA secretary Claire Butler, would like.

He has struck up a friendship with her collie cross Sadie and the two play together every evening.

Claire said: “I think Fred is probably living under our caravan. But he is beginning to show more interest in other foxes in the wood, which is good news.”
