Lifeboat search for source of flare

The sighting of a red flare north of Sittingbourne prompted a search of the Swale by the Whitstable lifeboat on Sunday evening.

Thames Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboat at 5.49pm, but despite the lifeboat searching as far as the Kingsferry Bridge and coastguards keeping watch from the shore, nothing was found and after two hours the lifeboat returned to station.
