Shirtless shoplifter at Sturry Road Premier and Post Office in Sturry, Canterbury, caught on CCTV taking wine

A shirtless shoplifter has been caught on CCTV stealing chocolate and bottles of wine while twice targeting a village store.

The brazen thief grabbed the alcohol from shelves at the Sturry Road Premier and Post Office near Canterbury on Saturday.

He then returned and did the same on Monday.

Shop owner Thusy Suvra says staff were too intimated to confront the man as he appeared to be drunk.

“He was quite brazen about it and just said ‘do whatever you want’ before walking out with the goods,” he said.

“They were quite stunned because we had other customers, including children, in the shop at the time who witnessed it.

“It really is unacceptable behaviour.

“We work our backsides off to make a living and someone thinks they can just come in and help themselves.

“There were children in the shop and it just sends out the wrong kind of message.”

Mr Suvra says the thefts have been reported to the police.

A police spokesman said: “Kent Police is investigating the alleged theft of wine and chocolate from a shop on Sturry Road, Canterbury, at 3.25pm on Saturday, September 10.

“Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.”
