A Dover man was sentenced to 84 days in prison after pleading guilty to obstructing a police officer, theft and two counts of failing to surrender to court.

Jan Vig, 21, of Folkestone Road, failed to surrender to custody at Channel Magistrates’ Court without a reasonable excuse on November 2 last year.

On November 4, Vig stole a mobile phone from a woman, worth £500 in Dover.

On the same day he willfully obstructed a police officer in the execution of his duty.

On January 7 he stole food worth £54.02 from a supermarket in Doncaster.

He was charged with a second theft offence for which no plea was taken.

Vig’s 84-day prison stretch was sentenced by Channel Magistrates’ Court on January 20.
