Ebbsfleet produced a gutsy, determined display to earn a thoroughly deserved FA Cup first round replay at Stonebrige Road on Tuesday week (November 16).

However, the game's main talking point surrounded the performance of Southampton referee Andy Davies, who sent off home striker Christian Jolley eight minutes before half-time and then dismissed Fleet midfielder Ashley Carew for a second booking four minutes later.

Jolley was shown a straight red for a challenge on Fleet defender Craig Stone, while Carew walked after he was harshly judged to have encroached at a free kick.

Fleet had their chances to win the game at the first attempt. Michael West's free kick after 11 minutes was pushed away by home goalkeeper Seb Brown, while Callum Willock and Ricky Shakes (pictured) also went close, the latter when one-on-one with Brown.

The second half developed into an entertaining struggle, with the home side missing a couple of good openings and having claims for a penalty ruled out.

Fleet could have won the tie when Shakes was through but the Kent side will be looking forward to a place in Sunday's draw and a lucrative second meeting with their well-supported opponents.

Also booked in the game were Fleet's Clint Easton, Willock, Ram Marwa and Stone.
