A driver has denied causing the death of schoolboy Tom Brenchley by careless driving.

Gareth Jones, of Hill View Road, Whitstable, will stand trial at Canterbury Crown Court on November 1.

The 48-year-old entered the not guilty plea when he appeared at Maidstone Crown Court today. Unconditional bail was continued.

Tom, who was 16, died from head injuries on July 28 last year after his moped was in collision with a Volvo S80 car on the A229 Thanet Way near Dargate.

The teenager lived with his police sergeant father Dave and mother Jackie in the village of Hernhill. He had just finished his GCSEs at the Archbishops School in Canterbury.
