Egg throwers endanger cyclist's sight

A PENSIONER likely to lose the sight in one eye after an egg was thrown into his face.

Children threw an egg at the 75-year-old man as he was cycling down Maidstone Road in Chatham.

Despite undergoing an operation on his right eye, the victim’s vision is still blurred and a rupture at the back of his eye could eventually lead to him going blind in that eye.

The man, who is from Gillingham, managed to get to Chatham Police Station after the incident which happened between Wyles Road and Athelstan Road.

The man had been cycling down the road between 9pm and 9.30pm on January 3 when he felt a sharp pain in his eye and realised he had been hit by an egg.

The victim heard the voices of two children shouting and laughing but did not see the offenders. His injury was so serious that he was taken to a London hospital.

Police would like to hear from anyone who may have seen the incident or children throwing eggs at anyone else in the Wyles Road/Athelstan Road area of Maidstone Road.
