Help needed with youth crime project

AN ACTIVITIES scheme aimed at reducing juvenile crime in disadvantaged areas is appealing for more sponsors.

The Youth Together summer holiday scheme for 11 to 15-year-olds will operate in East Malling, Snodland, Hadlow and north Tonbridge from Monday, July 28, until Friday, August 22.

Ruth Whyte, information officer for Tonbridge and Malling Council, said: "It has a real impact on juvenile crime in the area. The figures on youth crime have gone down year on year during the scheme."

Families in the four areas should receive a leaflet explaining the activities on offer and how to join, by the beginning of July.

Alison McCann, crime reduction assistant at the council, said: "The more sponsors we get, the more we can actually put on."
