Police investigating an attempted raid on a cash and carry store today appealed for help from the public.

The incident happened at about 5am on Saturday at Batley’s in Courtney Road as thieves tried to steal a safe.

It is believed that they fled the scene after the failed attempt in a blue Jeep Cherokee which was later found abandoned in Begonia Avenue, Twydall.

Police would like to speak to anyone who saw this vehicle or anyone in the area between 5.20-5.30am.

The thieves removed the safe using a stolen Volvo digger, which had been taken from a nearby building site.

A Flatbed Iveco Truck, also stolen, was used in the incident and both were abandoned at the cash and carry store.

Det Chief Insp Jon Sutton from Medway Police said: "I would be keen to hear from anyone who saw any people leaving the scene of the Jeep Cherokee on Begonia Avenue."
