MANY D-Day veterans from Kent unable to attend the moving 60th celebrations in Normandy at the weekend attended special ceremonies in their own towns and villages.

Colourful standards shone in the sunshine as veterans, most of them in their 80s, remembered their fallen comrades. Wreaths were laid and the Last Post played.
