West Bromwich Albion 0 Charlton 1

SKIPPER Matt Holland's first goal of the season earned Charlton back-to-back away wins for the first time this season on Saturday at The Hawthorns.

He took his chance superbly in the 30th minute when he drove a home a low shot from just inside the penalty area after the West Bromwich Albion defence half cleared Danny Murphy's free kick.

Bottom of the table Albion should have fallen further behind in the 44th minute when Murphy shot into the side netting from close range.

The former England international did exactly the same two minutes into the second half after Hermann Hreidarsson's header created the opening.

A minute later Shaun Bartlett missed a sitter from a cross from Jerome Thomas before Albion applied sustained pressure on the Addicks with wave after wave of attacks.

But Charlton remained resolute as they followed up the previous week's triumph away to arch rivals Crystal Palace.

Charlton: Kiely, Young, Hreidarsson, Fortune, El Karkouri, Holland, Kishishev, Murphy, Thomas (Hughes 84), Rommedahl (Konchesky 64), Bartlett. Subs Not Used: Andersen, Euell, Jeffers.

Attendance: 24,697
