Kent swimmer Ellen Gandy has qualified for this summer's Beijing Olympics.

The Beckenham Swimming Club teenager claimed her place after a triumphant display at the British Swimming Championships in Sheffield.

Gandy, 16, finished second in the final of the 200m butterfly event after earlier achieving the qualifying time in the heats.

Winner of the final was Jemma Lowe (Borough of Stockton) and Gandy had to fend off the challenge of two other swimmers, who had also achieved qualifying times, to make the squad.

The youngster has trained in Australia and China and her devotion paid off in Sheffield.

She will now be part of Team GB after those results were enough for selection by the British Olympic Association.
