Parkinson defiant as Addicks hit rock bottom

Blackpool 2 Charlton 0

Caretaker manager Phil Parkinson vowed to keep fighting as Charlton hit rock bottom of the Coca-Cola Championship with another unacceptable performance at Blackpool on Saturday.

Parkinson, who is keen to take the job on a permanent basis, still awaits his first win after three games in charge as Charlton's winless sequence stretched to 11 games at Bloomfield Road.

He confessed to facing the biggest test of his managerial credentials if he is to turn around the club's rapidly disintegrating season.

"I cannot dress that performance up," he said. "We were beaten by the better side but I can assure our supporters that I will keep fighting and make sure the players respond in the right way against Coventry on Tuesday.

"We did alright in the first period of the first half and then we were undone by another set-piece goal.

"We were unable to handle that basic style of football of the ball over the top.

"Elsewhere our decisions on the ball and our quality on the ball were not good enough.

"We gave the ball away too cheaply and that cannot go on."

Parkinson confirmed that defender Martin Cranie suffered a dislocated shoulder and is unlikely to face Coventry while goalkeeper Nicky Weaver is also doubtful after falling awkwardly late in the game.

Charlton could not contain big Blackpool striker Liam Dickinson, signed on loan from Derby County.

He opened the scoring in the 46th minute with a header from Lee Hendrie's corner and increased the lead in the 56th, snapping up the rebound after Weaver had saved his first attempt.

Blackpool's former Charlton goalkeeper Paul Rachubka was seldom extended. He did well to save from Andy Gray's close range shot in the 11th minute and tipped over Nicky Bailey's drive in the 58th.

Charlton: Weaver, Cranie (Holland 79 mins), McEveley, Fortune, Hudson, Gillespie (Sam 55 mins), Bouazza, Semedo, Bailey, Gray (Dickson 65 mins), Burton

Subs not used: Elliot (GK), McLeod
