Southern League Division 1 East preview

CHATHAM manager Steve Binks will hope his side can erase the memory of their FA Cup defeat when they travel to Barton in Southern League, Division 1 East on Saturday.

Chats suffered their first defeat of the season against Leatherhead last weekend and Binks is keen for his side to respond.

He said: "Looking at their results so far, it seems that Barton are not as strong as they were last season. But we all know there are no easy games and we have to win the battle first."

Chatham will be without Andy Larkin (hamstring) and Steve Best (family commitments) but hope to welcome back Steve Searle, Matt Solly and Andy Garret.

Dartford have been boosted ahead of their long trip to Corby by the return of Steve Hafner, just months after leaving the club to join Maldon Town.

The 22-year-old finished last season with Darts, but boss Tony Burman was unable to hold onto him after the midfielder attracted interest from several clubs.

After taking just one point from six, having won their first four games, Burman is glad to add another option to his squad.

Burman said: "Steve played around 15 games for me at the end of last season and bringing him back in makes the squad stronger.

"He can play wide on the right, wide on the left or in midfield so he’s a utility player in that respect.

Hafner goes straight into the squad for Saturday. Dave Martin is also expected to link up with the squad after recovering from ankle ligament damage.

Sittingbourne boss Steve Lovell is expected to name an unchanged side to face Barking & East Ham.

The Brickies beat Barton Rovers 2-0 on their travels a fortnight ago and after a week off they will be looking for a repeat performance.

Goalkeeper Kevin Fewell has been released by the club owing to the excellent displays by Steve Williams.
