Russel is 17, slim, with dark hair that has blue colourings. He was wearing red or maroon trouser bottoms, along with a red Champion hooded top. He was carrying a black Under Armor rucksack.

Officers say he is not in any trouble, but they need to know he is safe.

Chief Inspector Mark McLellan said: “We want Russel to know that while he may be feeling worried or scared, we’re here to help him.

“He is not in any trouble at all, and we just want to make sure he is safe.

“If Russel reads this, I urge him to please either call 999, or contact a friend or relative.”

“We have officers who are available to speak at any time or, if he would prefer, he can also visit us at a police station.

“‘We also want to reassure Russel that there are lots of other people who care about his welfare and who can help, such as volunteers at the Missing People charity. They are available every day, between 9am and 11pm by calling 116 000.”

Kent Search and Rescue volunteers have been helping Kent Police.

Yesterday a spokesman said: “It’s 32 degrees, we will deploy, but we need your help with sightings, dashcam and cctv. Please look, share and report any relevant information.”

At around 8pm this evening they said: “So the team are currently stood down from the 5th day of searching in Maidstone. Supporting us over these 5 grueling search days were the amazing @SE4x4R and @SASouthEastDiv. Massive thank you from the team for fueling us.”

Anyone with information on Russel’s whereabouts should call 999, quoting reference 06-1384.
