Kempster gives Stones winning start

MAIDTONE UNITED began their defence of the Go Travel Kent League title with a 2-1 win over Cray Wanderers at Central Park.

A crowd of 353 - the highest of the day in the Kent League - saw Stones take a first half lead through last season's top scorer Richard Sinden before Pietro Cirillo equalised for Cray with quarter of an hour left.

Stones took all three points on 82 minutes when Sinden collected a Ryan Hackett cross and looped a pass back across goal to Jamie Kempster who headed home.

On Wednesday evening the Stones visit Tunbridge Wells (kick-off 7.45pm).
