Crash causes tailbacks on M2 between Chatham and Gillingham

Police were at the scene of the crash.
Police were at the scene of the crash.

Three cars shunting into each other on the M2 London bound caused early morning tailbacks for commuters.

The accident happened at about 7.50am between junction four and three, the Gillingham and Chatham turn-offs.

Initially the crash closed three lanes of the motorway and caused tailbacks to the Gillingham junction.

After the emergency services arrived on the scene they were able to open two lanes of the carriageway to allow traffic to filter through.

An oil spill kept the third lane closed until about 8am.

None of the motorists suffered any serious injury.
