Paul Foley wants Chatham Town to show improvement

Chatham boss Paul Foley says it is important his side correct their ‘false’ league position in the coming weeks.

The Chats travel to Corinthian Casuals on Saturday on the back of a six-game winless streak and have fallen to 18th in Ryman League Division 1 South with 22 points from 21 games – just six points above the drop zone.

However, Foley insisted his side should be better off than they are after last week’s defeat at Ramsgate and Saturday’s 4-4 draw at home to Merstham, during which they led four times.

Foley said: "We should be sitting on 27 points, which would still be behind where we should be but we are sat with 22 points which is simply not good enough.

"However, we will pick up more points I am sure, especially given the good parts of our last two games."

Kevin Watson and Craig Wilkins are slight doubts while Joe Fuller remains out, though Gary Ward’s suspension has not yet started.

Foley also revealed Nick Hegley had decided to stay with the Chats despite receiving an approach from Faversham Town.

Foley said: "We received a seven day approach – Nick is always attracting interest from teams at our level and above."
