Whichever route you select for the KM Big Bike Ride, you can be assured that it’ll be scenic...

The annual cycling challenge day is now open for booking and will see hundreds of riders gather at Betteshanger Park, near Deal on Sunday, April 24.

The Vattenfall-supported event provides participants with the option of two routes to accommodate to all levels of fitness, ability and competition.

With both rides starting and finishing at Betteshanger, the 50K route provides more leisurely entrants with pleasant countryside views, passing through Sandwich, Preston and Bramling. The more taxing Locks of Sandwich Cycles-supported 100K route will thrill sportive riders as they span the county’s coastline, heading through Ramsgate, Margate and Reculver.

All riders will receive a goody bag and limited edition medal upon return. Refuelling stations will be located throughout both rides for those requiring additional drink and sustenance.

Participants have the option to raise money for their favourite charities, or to support foundations involved with the ride such as Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance. Alternatively, the event can be entered by those simply searching for an action-packed day out.

Lisa Craig, events manager at the KM Charity Team which organises the event, said: “The variation of sights and scenes throughout the ride provides challengers with much beauty, as well as giving an indication of their progress.”

She added: “More than 450 riders saddled up for either the 50K or 100K routes last year, raising a record-breaking figure for a variety of good causes. We are striving to build on this success and look forward to welcoming many new and returning faces this April.”

Riders aged 12 and up are welcome to ride, but those aged 12 to 17 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
