Police were called at 2.52pm to a report of an attempted robbery at a shop on London Road, Sittingbourne.
Police cars were spotted in the Cryalls Lane and Maylam Gardens area.
A police spokesman said: "Officers are currently searching the local area for a man and will be carrying out enquiries into the circumstances behind the incident."
