A woman was left battered and bruised after she was assaulted by a group of females.

The 25-year-old victim was hospitalised after she was set upon by four females as she walked along an alley which leads from East Street, Sittingbourne, by the Old Oak public house towards Fairview Road.

It is believed the woman was verbally abused then knocked to the ground and attacked by three members of the group while a fourth member restrained her arms to prevent her from defending herself.

Details of the attack which happened between 10pm and 11pm on December 22, have only just been released by Kent Police.

It is claimed the attackers, who are believed to be 20 to 22 years of age, were sitting on or gathered around railings at the Fairview Road end of the alley prior to the assault.

One girl is described as having blonde hair, wearing white shoes and a hooded top with the hood up over a hat.

The victim was discharged from Medway Maritime Hospital on Christmas Eve and appears to have suffered no long-term injuries.

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with any information to come forward.
