Ashford's Leon Camier has vowed to let his head rule his heart after suffering a potentially season-ending injury during World Superbike round 11 at the Nurburgring.

The 23-year-old, pictured, crashed heavily during the first qualifying session in Germany on Saturday and suffered a broken wrist, throwing his appearances at the final two rounds at Imola and Magny Cours into doubt.

His Aprilia Alitalia team confirmed that he would undergo surgery this week and Camier admits he will think twice before rushing himself back.

“I obviously want to get back as soon as I can, but there is no point coming back for the sake of it if I am not fit and simply risking further injury,” said Camier, who had been keen to stake his place for fifth overall in the championship at the Nurburgring.

“I came out of turn four at the Nurburgring and down the short straight and then as I tipped into the left it didn’t feel right.

“I went into the right like normal, it’s not the sort of corner where the back comes round, but without warning I lost the rear in a big way and got high-sided. I think I landed a bit awkwardly.”

World Superbike Championship races are broadcast on Eurosport, with the European rounds also available in high definition. Eurosport is on Sky 410 and Virgin Media 521. Eurosport HD is on Sky 412 and Virgin Media 522.
