POLICE and fire chiefs have launched an investigation after a three-year-old boy died in a house blaze in Ashford.

Fire crews were called to the house in Newenden Close, on the Stanhope estate, at about 11.30pm on Sunday night.

The boy's five-year-old sister was taken to Ashford's William Harvey Hospital suffering from smoke inhalation. His parents received hospital treatment for shock.

Two engines from Ashford fire station and one retained crew from Charing were called to the fire.

About 80 per cent of the first floor of the house was destroyed in the blaze.

The dead boy has not yet been named. An inquest will be held.
