Burst water main disrupts motorists

Water gushed down a road delaying motorists after a main burst.

Ashford Road in St Michael’s was flooded on one side by the burst on Thursday morning.

A burst four-inch cast-iron main, close to St Michael’s primary school, was reported to South East Water at 7.30am, with workmen arriving at 8am to begin repairs.

The bubbling main caused water to slow traffic on the approach to Tenterden.

It reached down to the St Michael’s village sign.

Kimberley Dadds, spokesman for South East Water, speaking only a short time after the incident, said: “We are undergoing excavation work to repair the main."
