Ashford Designer Outlet will not open on the day of the Queen's funeral.

Bosses at McArthurGlen say they will be joining many other businesses – including larger Sainsbury's and Tesco stores – by closing on Monday.

In a statement, the centre said: "We are deeply saddened by the news that HM Queen Elizabeth II has passed away.

"As a sign of respect, the centre will be closed on Monday, September 19, the day of Her Majesty's funeral.

"The centre will resume normal trading hours on Tuesday, September 20."

The site's last closure was in February amid Storm Eunice as high winds meant it was too dangerous to allow shoppers into the centre.

But the announcement of its closure on Monday follows a long list of other retailers and supermarkets which have also said they will be closed.

Supermarkets including Sainsbury's, Aldi, Tesco, Asda, M&S and Waitrose have all confirmed their bigger stores and food halls will be closed, with just some of their smaller stores remaining open for altered hours.
