Double yellow lines 'not 'working' at Orbital lorry problem

Yellow lines have not solved the lorry parking problem at Orbital Business Park in Ashford, according a leading campaigner.

Margaret Pryke, a campaigner to get lorries off the business park said she is "disappointed".

Last week double yellow lines were painted on the roads of Orbital Park but on Sunday there were 60 trucks parked there and a further 13 at Sevington Business Park, which is nearby.

There were fewer lorries than the usual 80 to 90 which have been parking at Orbital Park in recent weeks, but the problem is far from solved.

Double yellow lines have been painted on only one side of Monument Way, a road in the business park, so lorries have been parking on the side without lines.

Mrs Pryke, who has become known as Ashford’s "lorry lady", said: "The problem has simply been shunted from one side of the road to the other side of the road."

Asked what she thinks the next step to solving the problem and making Orbital Park safer for drivers and pedestrians, she said: "I believe the best option would be to make it one way."
